Historic Garden Week Tour (Newport News)

April 22 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Founded in 1896, Newport News boasts a rich history, particularly in shipbuilding, and a significant military presence. Nestled along the banks of the James River and the Hampton Roads harbor, the city offers a blend of historical significance and scenic beauty. This tour highlights the homes in the James Landing neighborhood, a community that has evolved over time. Historic maps trace its development from 1907 to the present, revealing its deep ties to the past, including its role in the 1862 Peninsula Campaign and the iconic Battle of the CSS Virginia and the USS Monitor. Today, James Landing is a charming neighborhood known for its mature trees, serene streets, and pristine surroundings. It’s also conveniently located near cultural landmarks, including museums, the Ferguson Fine Arts Center, and Christopher Newport University, making it one of the city’s most desirable areas. Each home featured on this tour offers a unique glimpse into the distinctive coastal Virginia lifestyle.
