Focus Tours at Thoroughgood House: Herstory (Virginia Beach)

While our daily tours give visitors a good overview of life on the Thoroughgood property, our weekly summer Focus Tours provide a deeper dive into specific areas of interest. Please click on the individual tour titles below for a detailed description of that week’s offering.

All 2026 Focus Tours are $5 per person. All tours will take place at the Thoroughgood House: 1636 Parish Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23455

Advanced registration is highly encouraged but walkups are welcome! Tours run every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour.

Dive deep into the stories of some of the unheard voices in history at the Thoroughgood House. In colonial times, women’s societal power was limited, but they were essential to maintaining their families and communities around them.
“Herstory” focuses on these tales, including Susannah Sanford Thoroughgood, Sarah Offley, and their connection to the Thoroughgood House, as well as stories of matriarchal indigenous societies and the experiences of enslaved women at this time.
