Exhibit: The Butterfly Collection at The Creative Well (Virginia Beach)

June 16 - July 3

THE BUTTERFLY COLLECTION
A Solo Exhibition by Rick Ricketts
June 16 – July 3
The Garage Gallery at the Creative Well Arts Foundation

Exhibition Statement

This body of work explores the quiet dialogue between life, and transformation. The ocean appears as both origin and threshold—vast, rhythmic, and emotionally charged—mirroring the interior landscapes of the butterflies portrayed. Emerging from or suspended within the sea, these figures exist in a space between stillness and motion, reflection and becoming.

Butterflies recur as intimate companions rather than symbols at a distance. They represent fragility without weakness, change without rupture. In their brief presence, they echo moments of awakening, tenderness, and resilience—small gestures that carry profound shifts. Together, the landscapes, butterflies, and ocean form a visual language of metamorphosis. The works invite viewers to consider cycles of renewal, the permeability between self and nature, and the strength found in softness. This exhibition is not about escape, but about return: to breath, to intuition, and to the quiet power of transformation. Together, these elements create moments of quiet encounter, where nature meets the human spirit in acts of trust, balance, and renewal.

The work invites viewers to reflect on cycles of change, vulnerability as strength, and the beauty found in surrendering to natural rhythms. This exhibition is an offering of pause—a space to breathe, to witness gentleness, and to remember our connection to the living world.
