All ages
1 session
Instructor: Dana Zumbrum

Get inspired by the art on view in our galleries, and join exhibiting artist Dana Zumbrum to create your own vibrant paper collage!

In this hands-on workshop, we’ll explore how to turn personal memories, meaningful places, or favorite objects into expressive works of art using hand-painted papers and layered collage.

We’ll begin with a demonstration of Zumbrum’s signature process: pulling paint across paper with a squeegee to create bold, textured surfaces. Then, working together, we’ll experiment with this playful technique to create a shared collection of colorful papers for our collages. After that, we’ll take a short walk through the galleries for inspiration and a closer look at Zumbrum’s work.

Back in the Atrium, you’ll be guided through Zumbrum’s personal collage process—starting with a “mother drawing” to design your scene, then breaking it down into shapes to cut, layer, and glue. With a mix of thoughtful planning and creative exploration, you’ll craft a one-of-a-kind collage that tells a story only you can tell.

By the end of the session, you’ll head home with a completed (or nearly completed) layered paper collage and a deeper appreciation for how personal experience can spark creative expression.

*Participants under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
