Annual Sister Cities Chinese Moon Festival at City Center at Oyster Point (Newport News)

The Mid-Autumn Festival is the second most important festival in China after Chinese New Year. This festival traditionally falls on the 15th day, of the eighth month in the Chinese lunar calendar, which often is in September or early October in the Gregorian calendar. For 2025, the official celebration is Monday, October 6th. Mid-Autumn Festival is also a popular observance in many other Asian countries such as Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Philippines but with different names. The festival date in these countries is the same as in China. Guests of SCNN’s local event will:

– Learn about the customs and traditions of this traditional Chinese holiday
– Learn about Newport News’ Sister City of Taizhou, Jiangsu Province
– Enjoy cultural performances
– Try some mooncake and Chinese tea!
