Celebrate Black History Month at Lee Hall Depot with a day of learning, creativity, and discovery during All Aboard for Stories and STEAM: African-Americans and the Railroad. This family-friendly event explores the vital role African-Americans played in shaping railroad history through hands-on activities and storytelling.
Activities include:
- Maker Space area with the City of Newport News Library Outreach Team
- Black Inventors Table, highlighting African-American inventors and their innovations in railroad history
- Create Your Own Blueprint station, where children can design their own invention
- Interpretive Story Board Exhibit, exploring African-Americans’ contributions to the railroad, including stories of enslaved individuals, women’s history, and the civil rights movement
- Scheduled Storytimes throughout the day
