A ceremony will take place in Norfolk on Jan. 31 to commemorate the burning of Norfolkβs 250th anniversary.
The burning of Norfolk was a major event during the American Revolutionary War that began after British soldiers bombarded the area on Jan. 1,1776. American forces responded by burning the city to ensure the British couldnβt use the port.
Sons of the American Revolutionβs Norfolk Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolutionβs Great Bridge Chapter, and the Children of the American Revolutionβs Old Cannonball Society are co-hosting the ceremony.
