If you have an Active Teen who is interested in working with children, and/or within the medical field this is a wonderful opportunity for great experience!
Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters (CHKD) is currently accepting volunteers for their Junior Volunteer Program. Applicants must be 15 or older by June 1, 2018.
Program Description: The program is divided into multiple sessions, each lasting 2-3 weeks. Volunteers should request a session that does not conflict with other summer plans such as camps and vacations. Volunteers report to their volunteer assignment on weekdays, Monday - Thursday only (during each summer) and can choose a morning shift (9 a.m.-12 p.m.), afternoon shift (1-4 p.m.) or full day of volunteering.
Assignments are available at our main hospital campus in downtown Norfolk, as well as many satellite centers including Virginia Beach, Newport News, Chesapeake, and Suffolk. The program fills on a first come basis and service areas include:
- Patient Interactions (in playroom and at bedside)
- Staff support in various clinics and offices
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- Gift Shop
- Surgical Services
Junior volunteers are given the opportunity to participate annually in a career fair featuring hospital employees from a variety of departments. In addition, limited CPR training is offered each summer.
