There’s nothing like sitting around as a family, piled up on the sofa to watch a movie together. And what goes better with a movie than popcorn? Nothing I can think of.

Bags of microwaveable popcorn can be really expensive and aren’t very healthy. With this recipe, you’re able to make a healthy family favorite just as fast as the convenient options in the grocery store for much less money.

To make it extra kid-friendly, let them make the popcorn and choose their own favorite seasonings. Some favorites include parmesan cheese, cinnamon and sugar, or extra butter and sea salt.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Serves 3

  • ½ cup unpopped popcorn kernels
  • 1 teaspoon oil (olive or coconut)
  • Seasalt to taste (optional)
  • 1 brown paper bag
  • 1 serving bowl

Here’s what you do:

  1. Combine popcorn kernels and oil in bowl
  2. Put in brown paper bag
  3. Fold top of bag to close (twice for good measure)
  4. Microwave upright for 2 ½ minutes
  5. Put in serving bowl and enjoy
  6. If adding toppings, they’ll stick best when popcorn is hot.

Note: If the bag falls on its side, the popcorn will burn.
