Kids love science – especially when it means doing exciting experiments and building stuff! Unleash your child’s inner scientist – at a Mad Science of Hampton Roads camp, the world is theirs to explore.

Mad Science of Hampton Roads half-day summer camps are designed to engage children in scientific explorations that are so much fun children will forget they are learning! Campers will get hands-on as they explore a variety of topics under the direction of Mad Scientists! Mad Science Summer Camps use simple, real-world science techniques that allow even the youngest of campers to enjoy the hands-on learning environment. Campers will bring home their projects each day of camp!

During the 2023 summer camp season, Mad Science is offering camps at 5 different community partner locations in Chesapeake, and Virginia Beach. Check out the different camp themes that are available for your active child!

NASA: Journey into Outer Space Camp (Rising Grades 1-6)

From our Earth’s atmosphere to the outer reaches of our solar system, this hands-on program sends kids on a quest for exploration! Comets, planets, stars and more are all waiting to be discovered. Learn about the four forces of flight, the challenges of space travel, and even participate in a model rocket launch!

Super Science Sampler Camp (Rising Grades 1-6)

Explore four of the coolest branches of science on your way to becoming a certified Jr. Mad Scientist. Discover how birds fly and learn what an owl eats as we dissect owl pellets in Bird Biology; build towering structures and ingenious contraptions via Engineering; go crazy while you construct catapults, pulleys and levers in Machine Mania; stir-up a crazy concoction that becomes sidewalk chalk and create a chromatography t-shirt in Chemistry.

Secret Agent Lab Camp (Rising Grades 1-6)

Focus on the science of forensics in this hands-on look at crime scenes. Identify and collect evidence, from fingerprints to tracks to trash! Recreate the scene of a crime using clues and detailed observations. Become a super sleuth and learn clever ways of performing tasks in this hands-on view of the science that spies use. From decoding messages to metal detectors and night vision, campers will have the opportunity to check out spy equipment and discover the technological tools of detection.

Red Hot Robots (Rising Grades 2-6)

Join us for a week of fun with amazing robots! In this week of camp, learn about circuits and electricity, gears and mechanisms, and more. Experiment with various robots, including sound-sensing robots and avoidance robots, and attempt to manipulate a robotic arm! Use your skills to build your very own working robot to take home with you. (Camp Price includes a $30 equipment fee.)
