First Art at MOCA (Virginia Beach)

April 20 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

$30 – $35

AGES 2–5 (WITH CAREGIVER*) *A caregiver, parent, or guardian must be present for the duration of this class.

Members $15; Nonmembers $20

2/17: Together, we’ll learn how to create prints with leaves and other natural materials using Gelli plates. Gelli plate printing with nature is a fun and easy technique that lets us get outside to find beautiful textures. This printing method results in colorful, texture-filled, and one-of-a-kind prints that will be sure to excite and amaze adults and children alike.

3/16: Get inspired by the art on view in our galleries, and work with a local artist to create fossils of plants and animals out of clay! We will press objects into slabs of clay in order to preserve an impression of the object.

All artworks created during this class will be glazed, kiln-fired, and treasured for years to come. Museum staff will contact you when your final artwork is ready for pickup!

4/20:Get inspired by the art on view in our galleries, and work with a local artist to create 3D artworks using natural materials!

Together, we’ll combine wood and air-dry clay to create our very own sculptures inspired by nature!

5/18: Together, we’ll learn about renewable natural resources as we explore the tactile world of wet felting, which combines wool, water, soap, and friction into a fun new material! In this exciting and hands-on workshop, we’ll experience the transformation of wool into felt and leave with our very own handmade landscape scene!

*A caregiver, parent, or guardian must be present
