Not Your Average Garden Center! Anderson’s set down roots in 1954 when Paul and Ruth Anderson built a greenhouse in their front yard. Their passion for growing turned into a business and they quickly became known as the destination to find quality homegrown plants. In 1972 their son Clark purchased the business and added pottery, furniture, gifts and a small cafe. Clark doubled the size of the property with several rounds of renovations. In 2005 he acquired more land and his stepson Jason Blanchette joined the business to bring his vision of a bigger better café to reality, Sage Kitchen was born.
Anderson’s has continued to grow as a family-owned business. The Virginia Beach location opened in 2016. Just like the generations before them Jason and his wife Melissa continue to keep their focus on homegrown plants while also drawing from inspiration around them to grow the business. Their three little girls inspired them to have the patio overlook the playground. Nostalgic memories of their childhood led to quarter-fed 80’s games in Broski’s Arcade–named after their beloved frenchie. Lots and lots of birthday parties made “The Terrace” (outdoor private rental and movie space) a reality. A nod to Grandpa Clark resulted in Mr. A’s Adventure Golf, 18 holes of family fun. While the Virginia Beach location is relatively new, the Anderson’s roots run deep.
