Meg Leahey is the Community Outreach Coordinator for VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads in Norfolk, VA. She matches volunteers with local volunteer opportunities throughout Hampton Roads. Meg writes a monthly guest post with updates on opportunities to volunteer with the kids!

The Parent-Teacher Association is an organization that facilitates parental participation at a school. As a parent you can be a volunteer, while also encouraging volunteerism within the school. How can you do this? Start a Community Outreach committee for the PTA of your child’s school.

VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads always encourages volunteerism for the youth of our community. A wonderful way to make a lasting impact on our youth as volunteers is to serve alongside your child.

By coordinating a Community Outreach committee within the school, you can help develop a service-learning program within the school, while also encouraging the parents to be a part of the movement. Contact your PTA President today to see how you can help!

Upcoming special events to participate with youth:

  • Bark at the Park: October 7, 2012, ages 12+
  • Volunteer Work Day: October 13, 2012, ages 8+
  • 2nd Annual Autism Bootacular Fall Social: October 27, 2012, ages 13+
