DESCRIPTION:Unfortunately\, the MacArthur Center will be closing later this year. Our lease will be up on June 27. So we will be in the process of moving almost everything into storage until we can find a new location. This website and our monthly newsletters will continue to provide information for you as time goes on. Beginning in May you will see some of our displays being taken down and removed. \nHowever\, we are not going to disappear! We are establishing a small store and a few displays at a temporary location until we can find a more permanent place. So you can still come and visit us beginning on July 1st in Virginia Beach! \nHours of Operation\nWe will remain open to the public on Fridays\, Saturdays and Sundays\, from 12-6 PM\, so you can watch while the Museum is being developed. We will continue to have trains running on several different layouts. Admission is free. \nThe Museum Store is now open. We currently have brand items like T-shirts\, sweatshirts\, hoodies\, mugs and water bottles. We are current stocking shelves with pre-owned N scale railcars and locomotives\, which we can test before you buy. A book written by our own historian Warren Leister on The Birth of Virginia Beach is also for sale. We are slowly adding more items. We can order almost any model railroad gear\, scenery or train set in any gauge that you want. All proceeds over expenses go back into the Museum. DESCRIPTION:We’ll walk along the Foxfire trail looking for migrating songbirds. This is a new out-and-back mixed-use paved trail. Once back\, we can walk along the paved trail and the Warbler trail to the Whitehurst-Buffington house. The clearing around the house is always a good birding spot. The total walking distance will be approximately 2.5 miles. This is a map of the West Neck Natural Area.\nThis will be a child-friendly field trip.  Children 7 and up are welcome to join us.  We’ll have a bird scavenger hunt for them!\n\nLogistics:  There are no restrooms or water at the Natural Area.  There is a coffee shop that opens at 8 am.  We can meet at the coffee shop afterwards to tally up our findings.  Don’t forget bug spray and sunscreen.
