DESCRIPTION:Unfortunately\, the MacArthur Center will be closing later this year. Our lease will be up on June 27. So we will be in the process of moving almost everything into storage until we can find a new location. This website and our monthly newsletters will continue to provide information for you as time goes on. Beginning in May you will see some of our displays being taken down and removed. \nHowever\, we are not going to disappear! We are establishing a small store and a few displays at a temporary location until we can find a more permanent place. So you can still come and visit us beginning on July 1st in Virginia Beach! \nHours of Operation\nWe will remain open to the public on Fridays\, Saturdays and Sundays\, from 12-6 PM\, so you can watch while the Museum is being developed. We will continue to have trains running on several different layouts. Admission is free. \nThe Museum Store is now open. We currently have brand items like T-shirts\, sweatshirts\, hoodies\, mugs and water bottles. We are current stocking shelves with pre-owned N scale railcars and locomotives\, which we can test before you buy. A book written by our own historian Warren Leister on The Birth of Virginia Beach is also for sale. We are slowly adding more items. We can order almost any model railroad gear\, scenery or train set in any gauge that you want. All proceeds over expenses go back into the Museum. DESCRIPTION:Set aside two days to become acquainted with the art of glassmaking. Learn basic techniques of working with molten glass and get to use all the tools yourself. This is the first class where students can gather (spool glass onto a metal rod in the glass furnace) to experiment\, play\, and create a series of shapes and forms. Learn how to shape glass with tools\, air\, and gravity. Each object builds on the knowledge and skills from the previous exercise\, leading to the creation of a functional drinking glass. \nSaturday and Sunday\, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. \n\nAges 16 +\n$256 Museum members\, $320 for non-members.\nWe will contact you when your art is ready for pick up or shipment.\nA full refund or rescheduling may only be granted if written notice is provided five or more days from the scheduled event. Some options are covered entirely by the deposit\, while others may require a small additional cost at the time of your reservation. All projects are all-inclusive; we provide everything you need!  Terrariums: Includes glass\, soil\, plants\, and decorative elements \nOur crew will guide you step-by-step through the full process—no experience needed! DESCRIPTION:Make a blown or solid object of your choice.  Create a blown ornament or sculptural bauble\, or sculpt a solid object like a starfish or heart.  Choose from an array of color options to make your object unique.  Object availability varies by season. \nRolling classes every 15 minutes 10–11:30 a.m. \n\nAges 5 +\n$60 for Museum members\, $75 for non-members\nGroups should select timeslots that are sequential to avoid overlapping experiences.\nWe will contact you when your art is ready for pick up or shipment.\nClass refunds or rescheduling will only be given if written notice is provided five (5) days before the scheduled event. Class times are fixed\, any arrivals 15 minutes or more from start time may not be accommodated.
