SUMMARY:Tour of Newport News (Newport News)
DESCRIPTION:The Tour of Newport News is a 3 day\, 5 race event that takes place in Newport News\, Virginia. What began in 2022 as a single criterium has since expanded to include 4 unique events that together make up the omnium. With the races taking place all throughout Newport News\, both participants and spectators are treated to a tour of this historically important city. The 2026 edition will begin on Friday\, April 10th with a new event at Todd Stadium and will end on Sunday\, April 12th with a participant favorite at Fort Eustis. In only 3 short years the event has become the most popular bicycle race in the Mid-Atlantic and one of the biggest on the East Coast. \n4/10: Back for it’s second year is the Todd Stadium Points Race to kick off the event. While a points race is traditionally a track specific event\, we are excited to offer an adapted version on the famed loop at Todd Stadium. Racers will sprint every 5 laps to earn points\, with the overall winner being the rider who accumulates the most points during the 30-50 minute long races. Racing starts at 8 AM and runs until 4:30 PM. \n4/10: New for 2026\, and perhaps the first event of its kind anywhere is the City Center Hill Climb p/b Old Dominion Metals & Recycling. Riders will race one at a time up an 8-story parking garage in central Newport News. TT style format\, riders will start at 20 second intervals and complete the climb in times between 1:30-2:00 minutes. Racing Starts at 6:30 PM and runs until around 9:30 PM. This is a can’t miss spectating event! \n4/11: Returning for 2026 is the short but intense race of truth\, the Crawford Road Time Trial. Don’t let the 5 mile distance fool you\, the rolling terrain and often windy conditions make it a true test of both physical fitness and mental fortitude. With Merckx equipment rules in affect its as pure as bicycle racing gets. The first rider leaves at 7:30 AM with riders starting 20 seconds apart\, Expect the final rider to finish around 10:30 AM \n4/11: The event that started it all\, the notoriously fast and technical Newport News Twilight Criterium. Featuring 8 turns in 1 km\, the figure eight shaped course strings fields out quick and exposes riders that lack the confidence in their handling skills. It begins a couple hours after the completion of the TT at 12:15 PM with the Kid’s Fun Race and ends under the lights with the Men’s Elite Field at 8 PM. The most spectator friendly event of the weekend! \n4/12: \nWhat is maybe the only remaining bicycle race on an active duty military base\, the Fort Eustis Circuit Race is a unique experience with a loop of 5 km of closed roads against a backdrop of both decommissioned military vehicles and helicopters and still active ones. No center line rule keeps racing dynamic and exciting. Racing commences at 8 AM and ends at 3 PM\, giving riders plenty of time to get home after a fun weekend of racing.

DESCRIPTION:The Museum is actively under development! We are working hard to create an exciting experience in model railroading for you. We currently have 10 operational layouts in all the major scales\, a locomotive race track\, and a Carrera race car track. Come on by and see what we’re up to. \nHours of Operation\nWe will remain open to the public on Fridays\, Saturdays and Sundays\, from 12-6 PM\, so you can watch while the Museum is being developed. We will continue to have trains running on several different layouts. Admission is free. \nThe Museum Store is now open. We currently have brand items like T-shirts\, sweatshirts\, hoodies\, mugs and water bottles. We are current stocking shelves with pre-owned N scale railcars and locomotives\, which we can test before you buy. A book written by our own historian Warren Leister on The Birth of Virginia Beach is also for sale. We are slowly adding more items. We can order almost any model railroad gear\, scenery or train set in any gauge that you want. All proceeds over expenses go back into the Museum. So every purchase you make helps to support our mission to bring model railroading to the public where it can be enjoyed by everyone. \nOur S.T.E.A.M. Program is in full swing. Children must be 9 years of age to participate. \nStudents will bring their own sewing machine and sewing supplies (scissors\, seam ripper\, thread\, bobbins\, pins\, ruler) to class.\nStudents need to know how to thread the machine and wind a bobbin. \nFor some projects a kit is required. Kits will include all fabrics and notions for the project.
