Sunday Sketchers at Chrysler Museum (Norfolk)
May 21 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Bring your pencil and sketchbook for an informal drawing group in the galleries. Practice close observation of a work of art, hone your skills, and meet like-minded artists. Artist and educator Rowena F. Finn will facilitate the session, providing inspiration and feedback.
Spend the afternoon with The Artists’ Wives. James Tissot’s painting depicts the ritual scene of artists gathering after final preparations for the annual Salon exhibition. The bustling scene includes portraits of several well-known artists like the sculptor Auguste Rodin, whose bearded, bespectacled face appears near the center of the painting. More than a portrait of the artists, Tissot’s work focuses on the stylish, urban women in attendance—the artists’ wives.
Please bring a sketchbook and pencils. Dry media only.
$5 for Museum members, $8 for non-members, registration recommended
