Summer Friday Evening Programs at New Quarter Park (York County)

August 25, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Held on the second and fourth Fridays of every summer month, come out to New Quarter Park and engage in a fun park activity as a family. Participants will experience a new skill or talent that can be done together as a family! Be sure to register for these programs; space will be limited!

SECOND FRIDAYS – Recreation in the Park (FREE)
7/14 – INTRODUCTION TO NATURE PHOPOGRAPHY – Led by naturalist Jim Easton, learn about what you must consider to create a photograph like a pro. Tips and tricks will cover how to adjust for lighting, location, and the composition of your photo.
8/11 – OPEN ARCHERY RANGE – You and your family are welcome to come out and try out Archery! We will have an archery range on the multipurpose field at New Quarter Park. Sign up for 1 of 2 open-range sessions to try out Archery. We will have equipment available on site for those who need to borrow; for free—sign-up for an hour of shooting on either of the time blocks below.
Before each open range, we will go over a safety talk for everyone to ensure everyone’s safety. Registration for this time block is limited, so do not wait!

FOURTH FRIDAYS – Natural History Education Talk (FREE)
7/28 – FISH OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY – Virginia Institute for Marine Science will talk about the wide variety of fish species in the Chesapeake Bay. How many are we talking about? You will have to stop by and see! Come to Shelter #2 to learn about how many fish species our bay supports. You will be surprised how many make an appearance at our park!
8/25 – CAREERS IN MARINE SCIENCE – Come with your family and learn about VIMS and their Marine Biologists at Shelter #2. In particular, what they do! Join us on this exciting opportunity to see what it takes to call oneself a marine biologist and if you or your family might even be considering partaking in this skilled career.
