Green Drinks: Songs by the Swamp: A Bird Walk Exploring the Stories behind Bird Voices at Newport News Park

Join the Newport News Green Foundation and Newport News Parks and Recreation on Saturday, May 10 at 9:00 a.m. at the Discovery Center in Newport News Park for a guided bird walk! Spring birding will be at its peak! Don’t miss this opportunity to glimpse the bird activity in Newport News!
Senior Park Ranger, Lauren Forero will be leading our birding walk from the Discovery Center to the Swamp Bridge and back. Birds & Beans Coffee, a 100% organic, fair trade, and bird friendly coffee business, will be available for FREE after the walk thanks to Wild Birds Unlimited Yorktown.
This Green Drinks event is FREE and open to the public.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
-Discovery Center Location: 13560 Jefferson Avenue, proceed 1 mile on Constitution Ave, the Discovery Center and parking lot is on the right (look for the Civil War cannon).
-The guided walk will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. at the Discovery Center and should last an hour and a half.
-Participants should expect to walk around 1 mile (roundtrip).
-A limited number of binoculars will be available. Participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars.
-The trail is not ADA accessible. Strollers are welcome but should be trail-ready strollers. No bikes allowed.
-No pets allowed unless they are a service animal.
-Children are welcome with adult supervision. We will have a scavenger hunt activity for children to complete on the bird walk.
