Conquer the Canal Trail Bike Race (Chesapeake)

May 13, 2023 @ 7:30 am - 12:00 pm

We will have medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers.

***CASH payout is based on a five-racer minimum per category. If the category has fewer than five racers, the first three will only receive medals. ***  CAT 1-2-3 Men and Women are combined fields for payout. CAT 5s are permitted to race in their Masters age category for time trails.

Parking and registration will be at 1246 Dismal Swamp Canal Trail, Chesapeake, VA 23322. The course is a 12 mile out-and-back individual time trial. Youth riders will race six miles. No warming up on the course. The best option for warm-up is to bring a stationary trainer. There is a 150 rider limit for this event. The park will open to all users at 11:00 AM.

There will be a professional onsite mechanic for any racer needing a last-minute adjustment to his/her ride.

Youth/Juniors race age 6-14:  No TT bikes or aero bars allowed as per USA Cycling. If any parent wishes to follow their young one on the course, please ask the judge first. Last year there were no problems letting parents follow for safety, but it will still be the judge’s call.

Results will be instantly available on Webscorer.com. No hard copy results will be posted in the park. We will have podium ceremonies near registration approximately 15 minutes after the arrival of the last rider in each category. Please listen for your name to be called to the podium ceremony. It’s a long parking lot and our megaphone is only so loud.

The Merckx category is available to rugged riders that want to race on the same gear as the “Cannibal,” Eddy Merckx; or any racer that doesn’t want to take out a second mortgage for a TT bike. This category does not allow aerobars or aero helmets, and the maximum rim depth is 60mm. Aero road helmets such as the Specialized Evade and Giro Vanquish are permitted. Three additional Merckx categories were added this year by popular demand.

Athena and Clydesdale riders will have a race day weigh-in. Please allow time.
