The Parades of OpSail 2012 Virginia
Three different parades are planned for OpSail 2012 VirginiaTM.
1. The first will be the Sea and Air Parade of Sail on Wednesday as the first group of ships sail into Norfolk! Ships are scheduled to arrive on Wednesday, June 6, 2012. This parade will include naval ships from all over the world as well as our own US military and representatives of private organizations.
The Parade of Sail will make its way past the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, and Fort Monroe to Downtown Norfolk Harbor where ships are expected to begin arriving at noon on Wednesday. For recommended viewing locations throughout Hampton Roads click HERE.
2. The 2012 Harborfest Parade of Sail will take place on Friday, June 8, 2012 and will highlight all of the tall ships participating in OpSail 2012 VirginiaTM. This is the parade that many associate with Harborfest because of the tall ships, antique vessels, tugboats and other ships that participate.
The Parade of Sail begins at 7am and will make its way past the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, and Fort Monroe to Downtown Norfolk Harbor where ships are expected to begin arriving at noon. For recommended viewing locations throughout Hampton Roads click HERE.
As the ships come into port the full schedule of festivities will kick off at Norfolk Harborfest! Harborfest is a great FREE, family-friendly event with performances, entertainment, family activities, fireworks and more. For information on Harborfest and all planned activities click HERE.
Make sure to check out information on the FREE shuttle service between attractions and events at Harborfest!
3. The final parade will be the Parade of Sail up the Chesapeake Bay as the ships head out of the area and on to their next port. This will take place on Tuesday morning, June 12, 2012. More information on this parade can be found HERE.
