There are great camps exploring art, history, physical movement, STEM and more at the Children's Museum of Virginia this summer. Find the perfect camp for your active child, listed below by age/dates!
Camps for ages 4-5
Did You Know Dino Camp - Dino Camp is an early childhood camp, designed expressly for young explorers. During these days of discovery, we will learn how to identify different dinosaurs, dig for dino bones, and make dino – themed arts & crafts and much more.
Dates: July 8 – 12, 10 – 11 am
Fun & Fitness - Do you love to move and groove? Campers will jump, dance, and wiggle as we explore the many ways to move our bodies and make fitness fun by participating in structured movement, balance, and coordination activities and visiting the traveling exhibit, “Healthyville.”
Dates: July 15 – 19, 10 – 11 am

Camps for ages 9-11
Secrets of Asian Design - Learn the woodworking secrets only the Chinese and Japanese knew centuries before Europe and America. Campers will decorate their own wooden box with real gesso, black lacquer, and gold leaf design of their choosing.
Dates: June 24 – 28, 9 am – 12 pm
Art Explorers - Explore the fascinating world of ancient Egypt and its decorative art through hands-on artistic projects. During the week campers will create sculptures and pyramids, design with hieroglyphics, and explore Egyptian painting, pottery, and papyrus.
Dates: June 24 – 28, 1 pm – 4 pm
The Art of Bookbinding - This week is all about books! We’ll explore how paper is made and we’ll create paste paper and marbled paper that we can use to decorate our books. And campers will make books with at least 3 different binding techniques.
Dates: July 29 – August 2, 9 am – 12 pm
Working Smarter with Simple Machines - Campers will discover the exciting applications of mechanical engineering! Starting with step-by-step builds to introduce each of the simple machines, learners eventually advance their way to constructing creations of their own. Be prepared to investigate levers, pulleys and inclined planes, and enhance critical thinking skills while building upon existing knowledge. Campers will gain foundations in physics, the design process, and scientific principles.
